COASTAL & OCEAN ENGINEERING
Oceanographic design criteria evaluation including deepwater tropical cyclone and hurricane generated wave hindcasting; wave spectral analysis; analytical transformation of deepwater waves to nearshore locations; storm surge numerical modeling; wave setup and overland flooding processes; tsunami wave inundation; analysis of hydrodynamic forces and loads on structures and breakwaters; marina and harbor planning and design; littoral drift and coastal erosion processes; shore protection and beach stabilization.

Computer modeling of ocean processes including circulation flows driven by tides, winds and waves; effluent plume models for ocean outfall discharges of both wastewater and heated water from power plants; turbidity dispersion models for such processes as dumping of dredged spoils from harbor dredging projects, stormwater discharges, and turbidity generated by coastal and offshore construction activities; 2-dimensional wave modeling.

Extensive field data acquisition capabilities including bathymetry and sub-bottom seismic surveys; current and wave measurements; physical oceanographic and water quality measurements.  An extensive array of oceanographic equipment is maintained in-house, including current meters, wave meters, tide gages, temperature sensors, echo sounders, fathometers and global positioning systems (GPS) including a differential GPS.

Environmental Assessment and Environmental Impact Statement development incorporating the evaluations and results of the above technical areas including coastal hazards assessment, analysis of impacts to coastal processes and the marine environment, and evaluation of measures to mitigate coastal and marine impacts.
